2006 J. C. Dunlap Scholarship Awarded to Sadie Broome

The J. C. Dunlap Scholarship is given by Bob Dunlap to the glory of God and in honor of his father, Mr. J. C. Dunlap. It is for a graduating senior who is an active member of Batesville Presbyterian Church and who plans to attend a four year college in Mississippi. Though the scholarship is administered by the Endowment Committee, under the authority of the Session of the church, the actual selection and approval of the recipient of the scholarship is made by a committee of St. Andrew Presbytery, based on academics, activities and service, church participation, and an essay.

This year the $8,000 J. C. Dunlap Scholarship goes to Miss Sadie Broome, daughter of Terri and Eric Broome. Sadie has maintained a 4.0+ grade point. She is Vice-President of her senior class, was voted Most Likely to Succeed, Star Student, Student Council President, and Math and Science Team Captain (they were 1st place in state). She is a member of: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Quill and Scroll, Key Club, and she is on the swim team and plays basketball.

At church, Sadie has been a Greeter, Usher, and Youth Deacon. She has attended the Sr. High Retreat at Camp Hopewell, weekly PYF devotionals, and been on a mission trip to Honduras. She has served on the Presbytery Youth Council, been a member of the Officer Nominating Committee in 2005, and she delivered the sermon on Youth Sunday. Sadie has been a busy young lady!

In her essay, Sadie mentions the encouragement of Dr. Burnham, and the teachings and guidance of Haley and Jay Williams (PYF Directors) and Adam Pittman (Sunday School teacher). She also mentions the support she has received from Batesville Presbyterian Church, which she calls a “constant” in her life.

Sadie is truly an outstanding choice for the 2006 J. C. Dunlap Scholarship. Thank you, Sadie, for all you have meant to Batesville Presbyterian Church, for the way you have represented us to the community and beyond, and for all of the achievements you have made and those still to come!
