Spring Picnic

Mark your calendars for the Spring Picnic on Sunday, June 1st at 6:00 PM. Watch the newsletter for more details on the spring picnic.

VBS Workers Needed

Did you know that plans for VBS 2008 began the day after VBS 2007 ended? And you may wonder why so much time and effort are put into a one-week program for children every summer. To find the answer, you might poll the adults in the church and find that many of their testimonies include a VBS experience from their own youth.

Through the VBS curriculum each year, the gospel message is presented clearly and simply. BUT! Leaders don’t have to be Bible scholars! Plans are underway for this year’s VBS June 2-6, and your help is needed. We need teachers, helpers, craft leaders, story leaders and more. Pray about it! The sign-up sheet is in the hall.

Congratulations also to Pastor Karen on the birth of her granddaughter, Riley Ann Ackerman-O’Brien. She was born on March 19, 2008 and weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 20 inches long. Pastor Karen was able to travel to Ohio last week to hold Riley and enjoy her first grandchild!

Have You Looked at the Plans?

The floor plans for the proposed building and renovation are on display in the recreation room. In the next few weeks, members of the Long-Range Planning Committee will be visiting adult Sunday school classes and other adult groups in the church. They will be looking for your input and suggestions, so that we may proceed with this project.

Don’t be shy. Let them know what you think and how you feel. If you would prefer to speak directly with a member of the Long-Range Planning Committee, they are: Kenny Hopper, William Cole and Billie Lois Marshall.

Letter to PYF Parents

Dear Parents,

Steve and I continue to be blessed each week as we meet with PYF and learn and grow with them. We hope that we are learning a little more about what we need to do to be effective youth leaders, as well as what the youth want and need on their PYF journey.

With that said, we have made the decision to have Wednesday night PYF be for Senior High only. Several session members, parents and youth have, on various occasions, requested that we split the two age groups. After much consideration and discussion, Steve and I think that this is the best way to meet the needs of the youth at this time.

We will now be able to have discussions, address issues, and tackle topics that are only appropriate for senior highs. Our hope is that this will not only benefit the senior highs, but the results will indirectly have a positive effect on each one of us as we continue to all meet together on Sunday nights.

Our new Wednesday schedule will be as follows: April 23rd-May 28th, Sr. High only from 6-7:15 PM.

The Sunday PYF schedule will remain the same for both groups.

Thank you again for your continued support and prayers. You and your families are what make our church and PYF program what it is.

Peace,

Allison and Steve

  • Kim Renfroe and Connie Waldrup for working in the nursery, and Briggs and Dot Smith, Mona Pittman and Haley Williams for leading Wee Worship Easter morning.
  • The Carlsons, PYF and Allison and Steve McCord for a tremendous job hosting the Easter Egg hunt and the brunch that followed.

PYF News

PYF's first Mission project is scheduled for this coming Sunday, 3/30/08. We are planning to clean up and clean out the Whitten house, in order to finish transforming it into a space where the youth look forward to coming for fellowship, games, meals, hanging out, devotions, discussions and fun. Several items will need to be moved out in order for this transformation to take place.

The PYF plans to donate what they cannot use to needy families and charity. We realize many of you have graciously donated most of the things that are in the Whitten house; so we would like to give everyone an opportunity to reclaim or simply take one last look at anything that is currently there.

These items will be placed in the dining area of the Whitten house from Monday, April 1st through Thursday, April 3rd for anyone to come by. Please feel free to get a key to the Whitten house from Teresa or call me to arrange a time to meet.

Thank you for your support of the youth and the PYF program.

Letter to Church Members

Dear Treasured Friends,

Four ladies of our church attended the Spring Gathering in Tupelo recently. Mrs. Bonnie Blair spoke at the meeting about her fear concerning the apathy in our women’s groups.

Recently, I had the same concern, not only for our PW, but for our church. Apathy is a disease. A disease can destroy, even kill, if a treatment is not found.

There is a treatment for apathy. It is commitment, loyalty, dedication and faithfulness, After seeing the worship attendance on Palm Sunday and remembering the Sunday before that, I felt compelled to write this.

We care cure the apathy in our church IF we are committed, dedicated, loyal and faithful to the Lord, who indeed gave His life for us. We have His promise that He will be with us always, IF we follow His calling. He keeps his promises. He has promised to never forsake us IF we follow this commandment. “IF” is a small word, but it has a marvelous condition.

It will be my prayer that we will take the treatment to cure the disease of apathy in our PW and our church. Won’t you join me in my prayer and make the commitment to accept His promise and His love, and respond with our promise and our Love?

Many times, names are not added to the church’s prayer list until a member ‘asks’ to have a name included. Likewise, a name is not removed from the prayer list until someone ‘asks’ that it be removed.

Please help us keep our prayer list current. And remember, you may also use the prayer list to celebrate “joys”, such as the birth of a baby.

From the Deacons

The Deacons would like to thank everyone for their support and participation in this year's Kirking of the Tartans. It was a grand occasion!

Special thanks to:

* Ben Graves and Don Kilgore for getting the sign up on the front lawn.

* Ben and Suzan Graves for the lovely wreaths and the hall arrangement.

* Eric and Terri Broome for hosting the Kilt Check Party on Saturday night.

* Mary Lynn Lewis and Charley Ann Nix for filling 65 styrofoam cups with ice and beverages.

* Harris Cole for helping out with all the last-minute details.

* Members of the BPC congregation--the food was wonderful!

* Rob Maddux, Walker Robison, and Roy Girner for stepping foward to carry the flags.

A Plea for Volunteers on Easter Morning

There is a need for two volunteers to direct Wee Worship on March 23rd. The pay is minimal, but the benefits are divine! Please call the church office if you are willing to make this sacrifice of your time on Easter Sunday.

In order to provide quality worship for our children each Sunday, BPC depends on volunteers to assist with Wee Worship. The list of volunteers is quite short! Please consider supporting Wee Worship. The longer the list, the less often everyone is called upon. Our little ones need you!

Sanctuary Flowers

The flowers given on March 9th were loving memory of the Rev. Dr. Silas “Si” Franklin Mack and Mrs. Katherine “Kitty” Mack by Pastor Karen O'Brien.

Easter Lilies

In celebration of Easter, you are invited to place an Easter lily in the sanctuary in honor or in memory of a loved one. The order forms are on the table in the hall. The deadline for placing an order is noon on March 17th.

Easter Egg Hunt

You are invited to the annual Easter egg hunt at the home of the honorable Judge and Mrs. George Carlson, 505 College St., Batesville. The hunt will be Saturday, March 22nd at 11:00 AM.

Parents are asked to please bring at least 12 plastic eggs with candy to the church office by Thursday, March 20th. (The office will be closed Friday, the 21st for Good Friday). Our thanks to PYF for hiding the Easter eggs for us once again this year.

SNL News Flash

SNL will not meet again until March 16th due to Kirkin’ and Spring Break. On the 16th, we will have a FUN FILLED FAMILY FINALE! (March 16th will be our final SNL meeting until September.) Look for details to come concerning this finale.

SNL canvases and pottery projects are ready to be picked up in the Rec. Room. Pottery pieces are placed on top of your canvases if you did both. We have some really talented young artists in our church.

Kirkin O’ the Tartans 3/2/08

This Sunday, March 2nd is the “Kirkin”! There will not be an early worship service, this week only.

Pastor Karen will bring the morning’s message. Please keep her girded with prayers as she prepares for this Kirkin’ service.

Weather permitting, musicians from the Wolf River Pipes and Drums will perform a “mini concert” on the front lawn at 10:30 a.m.

A representative from each family is invited to walk in the processional into the sanctuary at the beginning of the 11:00 service. Please be in the sanctuary at 10:45 a.m. to receive instructions before the processional begins.

The Rose and Thistle Luncheon 3/2/08

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our sign-up sheets runneth over! We're going to enjoy an absolutely splendid meal on Sunday following our Kirkin' service.

One--or two--or seven will be in the kitchen bright and early this Sunday morning. We'll have someone at the ready to help those of you who need some assistance getting your dishes in. Again, we deeply appreciate your response to our call for dishes.

The Deacons
