Worship at 11 A.M. Sun., March 10
There will be no 8:30 A.M. service on March 10, 2002. Susan Lewis and Betsy Ferguson will lead worship this Sunday at 11:00 A.M. Jon is taking a continuing education course in Louisville, Kentucky this week. He will be back in the office March 11.

Session Mon., March 11 at 6:30 P.M.
The Session meets this Monday night, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Session Room. Note that the meeting begins at 6:30 P.M. with a discussion with Dr. Walk Jones of the Presbyterian Foundation.

Memphis Lenten Dinner
Dr. Jon Burnham invites you to a Lenten program he will present at First Presbyterian Church in Memphis on Wednesday, March 20, 2002. The church van will leave BPC at 4:00 P.M. and return around 9:00 P.M.
Jon’s presentation will be titled "The Terrible Joy of Holy Week." Speak to Jon by March 17 if you plan to participate. The church cook in Memphis needs a head count for dinner that night.

PYF & SNL Spring Break
Due to spring break, PYF and SNL will not meet this Sunday.
We will have the last SNL for the spring and summer on March 17. That night will be Grandparents Night when grandparents of SNL participants are invited to come for dinner and a program. We will begin at 5:00 p.m. and should conclude by 6:30. Invite your grandparents and we’ll see you then!

Curry & Dunlap Scholarship forms are now available in the church office.

PW Circle Meetings
The PW Afternoon Circle will meet this Monday, March 11, at 2:00 PM in the home of Margie Lightsey, 236 Van Voris. Call 563-9806 for directions.
The PW Morning Circle will meet this Tuesday, March 12, at 9:30 AM in the home of Louise Vance, 208 College Street. Call 563-7369 for directions.

Wednesday Bible Study
Due to the Lenten Dinner in Memphis and the Festival of Renewal, the Wednesday Bible Study will not meet during March. The studies will resume at 11:00 A.M. on April 3 and conclude on May 1. In the interim, participants may attend the noon Lenten Lunch series at FUMC on Wednesday, March 6, 13 and 20.

One Great Hour Offering
The “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering will be received during each worship service on Easter Sunday. The offering supports Presbyterian Disaster Assistance from which we have received $10,000 for storm mitigation in Panola County. Let us show them our support.
Coin boxes will be distributed to the children for their collection of change for the “One Great Hour of Sharing” Offering. Extra coin boxes will be on the table in the hallway. The children’s coin boxes will be collected during the children’s sermon on Easter Sunday.

Montreat Youth Conference
Fred Henry and Debi Honnoll will chaperone our youth at the Montreat Youth Conference on June 2-8, 2002. They will stay at the Winnsboro Inn. The total cost will be $205 per person with an $85 non-refundable deposit due March 1. Make deposit checks payable to BPC.

Deacon’s Meeting
The Deacon’s will meet on Wednesday, March 6, at 7:00 P.M. in the Session Room.

World Day of Prayer
The Presbyterian Women invite you to the World Day of Prayer on March 1 at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in Batesville.

XYZ to Memphis
The XYZ Group invites you to join them on a trip to Memphis on Wednesday, Feb. 27, to hear Dr. John Mulder, President of Louisville (KY) Theological Seminary preach at the Calvary Episcopal Church Lenten Lunch. We will stay for lunch in the Waffle Shop at Calvary Church. We will leave BPC in the church van at 10 a.m. and return about 3 p.m. Jon will drive the van.

College Scholarships
Application forms for either the Dunlap Scholarship or Curry Scholarship will be available in the church secretary’s office beginning on March 1, 2002. Students may apply for either of the scholarships but not both. Applications must be returned by April 1.

Summer Camps for All
The church will pay 1/2 of your child's Camp Hopewell fees or adult's fees up to a maximum of $140 per person. Get a Hopewell brochure from the table in the hallway, fill it out and mail it in to register.

Memphis Lenten Dinner
Dr. Jon Burnham invites you join him on a trip to Memphis where he will be the featured speaker at a Lenten Dinner at First Presbyterian Church in Memphis on Wednesday, March 20, 2002. The church van will leave BPC at 4 p.m. and return about 9 p.m. Speak to Jon if you want to participate.

Job Change
Laddie Renfroe is now commuting to Olive Branch where he serves as the Athletic Assistant for the Park and Recreation Department of the city of Olive Branch. Congratulations to Laddie on his new job!

Congrats to Chesley
Congratulations to Chesley Lightsey, daughter of Jerry Lightsey and grand daughter of Margie Lightsey. Chelsey has been accepted into the Law School at Temple University in Philadelphia. Chesley scored in the top 5% in the nation on the LSAT.


Congrats to J.R. Smith
Congratulations to John Robert Smith who has been selected as the new Chairman of the Board of Amtrak. Mr. Smith was elected mayor of Meridian in 1993. The city of 40,000 is served by Amtrak's New York City-New Orleans "Crescent" train. Former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis will serve as vice chairman of Amtrak. John Robert Smith is the brother of Briggs Smith.

Youth Retreats
Maggie Parker will chaperone the Jr. High Retreat at Camp Hopewell on March 1-3, 2002. The Jr. High retreatants will leave the BPC parking lot at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1 and return by 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3. These Jr. High Youth will participate in the retreat: Ariel Brasher, Sadie Broome, Elizabeth Williams and Emily Williams.

Ginnie Monteith serves on the Presbytery Youth Council which is leading the retreats.
